Button Loopy

If you were looking for me a couple of nights ago, you would have found me at my sewing machine making dozens of button loops and little ribbon squares to cover them for the bishop's sticharion I was making (a sticharion is like a tunic.) Seriously I was up until 1AM making this thing because of all of the those little button loops. I generally hate doing repetitive tedious things like that, but a job is a job. Here are some pictures:

Here is the same thing applied to a sakkos:
And here is a picture of my dog Basil because he is just so damn cute:

BTW does anyone have any recommendations on digital cameras? I would need one that would do well in a dark dance club. I am looking to spend no more than $300.

Metals are a Girl's Best Friend

Via Fashion Gone Rogue

I love anything that has any sort of metal on it. Gold, silver, copper, chains, you name it I love it! My senior collection was full of ball chain that took me hours to sew on by hand (maybe I should put some of those pictures up.) I also really love the styling of this shoot. It is refreshing to see an editorial where the model has barely there make-up and freshly tousled hair. I love the contrast of that look with the crazy metal corset and gold chains.

Kitty Can

Via Fashion Gone Rogue

I am so in love with this editorial by Miles Aldridge from the May 2008 issue of Vogue Italia. Very Grey Gardens. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Crazy Cat Lady." It makes me want to adopt a few more cats (I already have three) as well as a few more pomeranians, and just wonder around the house in colorful clothes. I love the cats with the guitars, the cat in the goggles, and the stuffed mice! I also love the little kitty harnesses, but my cats would never wear them.

Seth Aaron+Portland Fashion Week+SolarWorld=Awesome!!!!!

At our weekly Portland Fashion Week meetings, Chris and Tito (Executive Producers of PFW) have been saying that they have a huge surprise, it's like the biggest thing that has ever happened to PFW, and they have been hanging it over our heads for weeks! We kept begging for them to tell us, but they couldn't because they still needed to get all of the details ironed out. Today I woke up to an e-mail written at 1AM by Tito finally revealing this news, but he said we could not say anything until the press release came out. Well the press release is out and here is the news, Seth Aaron Henderson (the winner of Project Runway Season 7) will be designing a collection inspired by SolarWorld for Portland Fashion Week! "The Seth Aaron SolarWorld Collection presented by Portland Fashion Week" will hit the black monocrystalline solar-panel runway at PFW on October 9 and I for one cannot wait to see it. I am very interested to see how the solar panels will inspire him. Maybe with the fabric? The silhouettes? The finishing techniques? A combination of all three? I am very excited to find out, and I am even more excited that I will be backstage immersed in all of the excitement. This promises to be the best PFW ever!!!!!!

Oh! You Pretty Thing

Via Fashion Gone Rogue

Usually with fashion editorials the female model is the star and the male model is more of an accessory. In this particular editorial by Craig McDean I couldn't give a flying farfegnugen about the girl, my eyes went straight for the guy. It's like Brian Eno and David Bowie had a secret love child and he grew up and became a model. That hair! Those cheekbones! The clothes are amazing too, especially the glittery pants and the feathery fur coat. It is so glam I can't stand it! I think I am going to go listen to Hunky Dory now...

I Love a (Wo)Man in Uniform

Via Fashion Gone Rogue

I have always loved anything military or military inspired, so I was very excited when I saw this editorial. I also love the pins and brooches, it makes me want to buy a bunch and stick them on everything I own. I may be going thrift shopping today so I will be on the lookout for pins, jackets, and cool hats. I think there may be a trip to the army surplus store in my future as well.

Givenchy

I really can't get the latest Givenchy Couture Collection out of my head. It was so amazing. It reminds me of the Greek Orthodox vestments I sew. I have really been wanting to do another collection (I haven't done one in two or three years) and I have it in my head that I want to construct the entire collection only using Greek Orthodox vestment making techniques. This means I could not use any modern finishing techniques, like zippers. I keep thinking that this might be impossible but looking at the Givenchy collection inspired me to maybe give it a try. It might be a long time coming though.

MJ Hoodie

After spending last week in Vegas and the weekend working, I felt like today should be spent catching up on e-mails and blogs as well as putting the house back in order. The outfit I chose for this? Yoga pants, slippers, and a Michael Jackson hoodie I found in Vegas. What is a MJ hoodie you might ask? Well, it's red with black studded shoulder patches with chains coming down onto the shoulder. My friend Alana (who also bought one) and I stumbled upon a store while shopping at Planet Hollywood (I think it was some sort of Rave incarnation) and found this gem, along with a bunch more awful things. It's like the designers have a running bet with each other to see who can design the ugliest, most hideous thing that people will actually buy and wear. I wish I would have taken pictures in the store. It seemed like most everything in Vegas was covered in sequins, rhinestones, or glitter, which made shopping kind of difficult. All in all a great trip though. Here is the MJ Hoodie in all of it's glory:
